About 1190 Dundas Street EThe Carlaw

Instead of being suspended in a state of limbo, the soft lofts at 345 Carlaw and 1190 Dundas embrace their bridging position between the old and the new. The red brick found on certain faces of the Carlaw is an obvious nod to Leslieville & South Riverdale's industrial history, while horizontal sheets of glass and wraparound balconies add a modern twist.

The Carlaw was created by none other than Streetcar Developments, an award-winning firm known for its knack for designing residences that fit seamlessly into their neighbourhoods. Set within one of the more artsy areas of the city, the Carlaw’s architectural style mimics this sentiment with its innovative architectural style. What’s more, with this project Streetcar even managed to include 25,000 square feet of outdoor space in which neighbours may mingle.

The building also caters to creative types by sharing its address with the Crow’s Theatre. This venue, located on the ground floor of 345 Carlaw and 1190 Dundas, hosts unconventional, yet always entertaining, performances.

In total, the building spans 12 storeys and an impressive 311 units can be found inside. In addition to the soft lofts, residents have access to exercise facilities, a party room, a cinema, two guest suites, and a rooftop lounge with barbecues. Parking is also available for residents living in the larger units at, while visitor parking and a concierge are available to make guests feel comfortable as can be.

    The Suites

While the majority of the suites inhabiting the main building, 21 Toronto townhouses are also part and parcel of the complex. These homes, set just to the east, boast two or three bedrooms each, and the smallest ones are spread out over a minimum of 1,000 square feet. The townhomes at 345 Carlaw and 1190 Dundas are designated as live/work lofts, and some of the more spacious units span three floors.

Focusing back in on the tower, the remainder of the lofts range quite dramatically. The smallest units start at around 350 square feet, ideal homes for single professionals in need of a private space for one. Larger lofts can reach to approximately 1,800 square feet, and feature up to two bedrooms plus a den.

All Toronto condos for sale at the Carlaw have something in common: the modern finishes bestowed upon them by Streetcar Developments. Engineered hardwood graces the floors of these soft lofts, while sliding glass doors and stone countertops are found throughout the kitchens. High ceilings are also abundant, and certain fortunate homeowners can even enjoy spending time on their private rooftop terraces.

    The Neighbourhood

With its location at the corner of Dundas and Carlaw, the Carlaw is set in the midst of a charming, community-oriented neighbourhood. Set just far enough away from the bustling downtown core, skyscrapers are far and few between in east end Toronto.

Leslieville is chock full of independent businesses, which range from cool cafés to quirky places to get some exercise. Queen Street East is where the real action is — date nights might involve taking in a live concert at the Opera House or picking up some charcuterie from Sandy Aleksander and spending the evening indoors. Heading out in the other direction will also land residents at Gerrard Street, which hosts Toronto’s very own “Little India.”

Outdoorsy types will enjoy spending summer Sundays in Bruce Mackey Park, while those who like to stay active year-round can get some exercise indoors at the Jimmie Simpson Recreation Centre. Soft loft owners living at 345 Carlaw and 1190 Dundas can also reach Riverdale Park in no time, which spans over 100 acres and features everything from baseball diamonds to cricket pitches, and even a small farm.

    Transportation

Residents can zip around Toronto with ease, thanks to their location at the corner of two major arterial roads. Dundas Street East will carry drivers or passengers on streetcars toward the City Centre, while Carlaw is an ideal route for those heading north or south.

For those without cars, Pape Station on the Bloor-Danforth line can be reached by taking the 72 Pape bus for just under 10 minutes. Alternatively, travelers can reach the Yonge line by taking the streetcar along Dundas toward Dundas station.

For when the time comes to head out of town, drivers can hop onto the Don Valley Parkway for access to the 401. Those leaving on lengthier journeys can even reach Pearson International Airport in about one hour using the UP service from Union Station.
