About 150 George Street — Britain’s Gate Residences
Catering to prospective buyers with or without families, the Britain’s Gate Residences can be enjoyed by any one seeking spacious Toronto condos for sale in a warm and welcoming community. This compromise between urban and friendly makes 150 George Street quite unique, especially for a development located in downtown Toronto. Tucked onto a quiet side-street near Queen Street East and Jarvis Avenue, the Britain’s Gate Residences are townhouse units that offer the opportunity to live a charming lifestyle in an exciting metropolitan neighbourhood: Moss Park.
Completed in 2001 by Britain’s Gate Residences Limited, the complex stands at 4 storeys tall. The homes feature timeless traditional architecture, clad in red brick of course, which allows the plethora of grand windows spread throughout 150 George to shine. Moreover, each townhome features a long set of oriel bay windows, stretching from the main floor up to the rooftop. On the uppermost level, the façade is adorned with either distinguished dormer windows or a pair of deep, private balconies.
At ground level, on the other hand, stone accents add a sense of sturdiness to the base of the building. This stonework, along with inviting awnings, frame the townhome's private street-level entrances — perfect for those who would rather bump into their neighbours on the sidewalk than in a lobby or an elevator.
As exclusive as 150 George’s townhomes are, living here means giving up the large array of extensive amenities that comes hand in hand with some of the more dense high-rises in the city. For those who don’t see a lack of an indoor pool as a deal breaker, the vibrant scene along Queen East will more than suffice.
The Suites
There are only 12 townhome-style suites in the Britain’s Gate Residences, meaning prospective buyers interested in the building will have to act fast when a unit appears on the market. The homes range in size from approximately 1,900 to 2,100 square feet, with every unit spanning multiple stories. Each home also extends out onto balconies, and contains three bedrooms as well as a private garage. Some suites also boast access to their own backyards, a rare feature in the downtown core.
Considering how spacious the Britain’s Gate Residences are, their residents often settle into them for a long time. As a result, many of the units have been customized by long-term homeowners over the years. Regardless of their current aesthetics, they’re all quite enticing, since the developers originally appointed the suites with warm and welcoming details such as hardwood floors. To top it all off, the homes are beautifully lit by an abundance of natural light that flows through the suites’ many large windows.
The Neighbourhood
A few steps south of vibrant Queen Street East, those living in 150 George can easily live an active, urban lifestyle — especially since this means living so close to the massive Moss Park. Boasting lush mature trees that line its borders, Moss Park feels like an escape from the city. This park also proves quite exciting, as it contains a popular baseball diamond, outdoor tennis and basketball courts, and the Moss Park arena.
Moss Park also offers residents the opportunity to grow and harvest their produce in the Fred Victor Community Gardens. But even for residents of 150 George who don’t have a green thumb, those living in the building can also get their share of carefully cultivated fruits and vegetables from the beloved St. Lawrence Market. Here, residents can also find top-quality fish and seafood, imported spices, meats, and cheeses, and freshly baked breads. Located on Front Street, just off of Jarvis, St. Lawrence Market is less than a ten minute walk from home.
Transportation
The Britain’s Gate Residences are well positioned for their residents to take advantage of the city’s public transit network. Around the corner at Queen and Jarvis, the 501 Streetcar provides service east and west across much of the city. Additionally, the 501 takes riders west in order for them to make connections onto the subway at Osgoode and Queen Stations, both on the north-south running Yonge-University-Spadina line.
For those who prefer to travel by car, the Britain’s Gate Residences thankfully sit outside of the often congested city traffic that’s worst around Yonge Street. As a result, residents can drive around their neighbourhood easily and painlessly. And, when the time comes to venture out to the city’s surrounding towns and suburbs, accessing the highway often takes less than five minutes: drivers need only head south a few blocks on Jarvis in order to merge onto the Gardiner Expressway. Or, yet another option for speedy travel is the nearby Don Valley Parkway.
