About 189 Queen Street EBoiler Factory Lofts

As the name so plainly suggests, the Boiler Factory Lofts inhabit a converted boiler factory in the Moss Park neighbourhood. However, the building itself and the Toronto lofts within are anything but ordinary.

First of all, the Boiler Factory stands out for their age: constructed in the 1880’s, this positions the building amongst some of the oldest conversions in the city. Then there’s the aesthetic factor. Even just the view from the street showcases the superior composition of the structure at 189 Queen Street East. Red brick is highlighted by yellow brick accents atop the plentiful, gently arched windows.

Converted in 2003, the former factory was given a new life with a residential purpose. The three-storey building now houses 11 hard lofts in a vibrant corner of downtown Toronto, along with amenities such as a swimming pool, exercise facilities, and a shared rooftop terrace.

    The Suites

Once inside the loft, it is easy to recognize the authenticity of this hard loft. One multi-level unit was even featured on the popular CBC talk show Steven and Chris, as well as in Toronto Life’s Condo of the Week segment.

Original wooden posts and ceiling beams make already soaring 14-foot ceilings feel as if they go on forever. Original oak flooring was also generously preserved in the conversion process, adding both warmth and character to the updated units. Exposed yellow or red brick (depending on the unit) mixed with visible ductwork serve as those quintessential loft elements, as well as added reminders of the building’s past.

Every unit at 189 Queen Street East features a terrace spanning more than 200 square feet in size. And although the building is comprised of only 11 units, Toronto condos for sale here still come in a wide variety of sizes, with homes ranging from approximately 900 to 2,100 square feet.

    The Neighbourhood

From the address, it’s apparent that the location of the Boiler Factory Lofts is idyllic. Queen Street East is slightly more laid back than its counterpart to the west, or what has become known as the coolest neighbourhood in Toronto in recent years. This way, residents are able to explore a lively part of Queen Street, without all of the added pressure.

In less than 10 minutes on foot, residents can find themselves lost in a food frenzy inside St. Lawrence Market. From locally sourced meats and cheeses, to freshly baked bread and bagels, global spices, fresh produce, and more, market browsers are unlikely to leave empty handed.

While Moss Park across the street offers ample green space, Lake Ontario and its 56 kilometres of walking and cycling trails are nearby as well. Between summertime trips to Cherry Beach, the Harbourfront Centre, and the Toronto Islands, Toronto will never feel as tropical as it does from 189 Queen Street East. St. James Park is around the corner as well, a highly cultured grassy area that host both weekly concerts and film nights, whether permitting.

    Transportation

Public transit users will rejoice at the Boiler Factory Lofts’ proximity to Queen station on the Yonge subway line. While the station is only 8 minutes away by foot, we won’t judge anyone who opts for the streetcar during the winter. From the subway, the rest of the city can be reached with ease.

Cyclists can utilize bike lanes that move east and west along Richmond and Adelaide, especially handy in avoiding rush hour traffic.

Drivers will love the quick ride to the Gardiner Expressway, which can then transport them to the Don Valley Parkway to the east, or the 427 and Pearson International Airport to the west. And speaking of airports, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is only a 10-minute drive away from the Boiler Factory Lofts, or half an hour via public transportation.
