About 383 Adelaide Street ELiberty Lofts

At 383 Adelaide Street East, residents’ morning shower and shave routines have a dash of added significance. These rituals are performed in the very place where razors were once manufactured for Gillette in the early 20th century. Following its closure in the 1990’s and the building’s subsequent conversion into Toronto lofts in 2001, the Liberty Lofts has joined the ranks of Toronto’s most captivating hard lofts.

The interior courtyard once employed by labourers is now a bright and impressive foyer covered by skylight. This communal area can be admired as one climbs the building’s central elevator in pursuit of their own loft each day. Even from shared spaces such as the atrium, this boutique, low-rise hard loft oozes authenticity and historical significance.

    The Suites

383 Adelaide East, where 46 authentic, hard lofts stand today, was once the site of two structures — the factory itself and a warehouse for storing the finished Gillette goods. The twofold configuration of the Liberty Lofts affords prospective buyers with a choice between two opposing aesthetics. In some units, exposed brick of deep crimson is married with warm wooden posts and beams. Other lofts contain a coarser, yet cooler finish of exposed grey brick.

Toronto condos for sale range quite dramatically at 383 Adelaide East. A great majority of the lofts are one-bedroom units, while layouts can climb to dual-level lofts containing two bedrooms and sundecks. Smaller units still boast outdoor space, in the form of charming Juliet balconies. The range of sizes at the Liberty Lofts begins at approximately 600 and reaches to around 1,300 square feet.

Thanks to its former industrial use, each unit enjoys soaring ceiling heights, reaching anywhere from 11 to 13 feet. Supporting these ceilings are concrete columns from the 1920’s or turn of the century brick posts, depending on the loft’s location in the former factory or warehouse structure. These elements serve as additional reminders of the structure’s previous life. Also assisting in this aesthetic task are the exposed ducts and warehouse windows found throughout.

    The Neighbourhood

With an address like 383 Adelaide Street East, residents of the Liberty Lofts are typically not the homebody types. Even brand new locals living in the Moss Park and St. Lawrence neighbourhoods quickly adapt to the spirited atmosphere of this central Toronto area. Although hectic urban life can be overwhelming and isolating, neighbours in the St. Lawrence area are especially welcoming and sociable.

For shoppers, the St. Lawrence Market never fails to impress. Whether picking up a legendary peameal sandwich at Carousel Bakery, gathering produce for a week’s worth of salads, or finding inspiration for a dinner party menu, the market has it all. And for inexpensive staples, the Metro on Front Street is always less than 10 minutes away on foot.

Culture buffs will love their proximity to the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre for live productions or the Rainbow Cinema on Front Street for catching the latest blockbuster at a discounted price. Residents can also catch weekly outdoor concerts and films in St. James Park during the summer months.

    Transportation

Moving about the area is easy by any means of transportation. Streetcars along King Street East are only a block away, while walking two blocks will land residents at the Queen streetcars that run 24 hours a day. From either of these, travelers can transfer to the Yonge subway line at Queen or King stations, or travel to the eastern and western ends of downtown Toronto.

For car owners, the Gardiner Expressway is just around the corner from the Liberty Lofts. From here, drivers can merge with the Don Valley Parkway or the 427 for travel around the city or weekend getaways.
