    Buying a home in Wychwood

If you’ve heard of Wychwood, it’s probably due to the private community in Wychwood Park — somewhat of an oddity, Wychwood Park was once a gated community, it’s now open to the public, but it still functions as a private neighbourhood — it actually has its own executive council too, although it’s anyone’s guess as to what such a council actually does.

What you might not know, is that the gated community is just a small part of a larger neighbourhood — one which is not nearly so exclusive. Bounded to the north by St. Clair and to the South by Frankel-Lambert Park and Garrison Creek Park, Wychwood is a great place for families, with quiet tree-shrouded streets lined with semi detached and detached 2-storey houses.

Single-family homes in the neighbourhood can garner high price tags, but Wychwood condos are surprisingly affordable, and also entirely modern. With a relatively low price per square foot and a great location in midtown Toronto, Wychwood condos have plenty of appeal.

St. Clair and Davenport serve as the site for most businesses in the area — St. Clair offers a wide selection of restaurants, pubs, and cafes; there are many specialty shops in the area, financial institutions, and health clubs. Davenport provides additional dining options, with a few cleaners, salons, and pubs sprinkled along the road.

For families, there are daycares, schools, senior homes, tutoring services, and many parks and athletic clubs. The Peter MacKendrick Community Gallery is on the north side of the neighbourhood, providing art and theatre programs for children. And for a history lesson; Tollkeepers' Cottage Museum is on Davenport Road.

    Condo Life in Wychwood

Wychwood has a burgeoning condo scene — there are a few buildings in the neighbourhood with more in development. First-time home buyers will likely be drawn to units at The Rushton Condos; built in 2013, The Rushton is a modern mid-rise, offering luxurious finishes like granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, but for much lower prices than in Toronto condos for sale downtown.

Of course, Wychwood condos aren’t just for first time buyers — for those with more discerning tastes, The Ossington Townhomes have suites that range from 1500 to 1800 square feet, and finishes that are nothing short of stunning.

And for something in between a starter condo and a luxury townhome; The Nest Condos offer well appointed suites and generous amenities for reasonable prices. All Wychwood condos are located on either the north end or south end of the neighbourhood, placing residents near transit lines and local businesses.

    Transportation

Tired of neighbourhoods that have everything you want except a pedestrian friendly environment? Take a deep breath — Wychwood has an 86 Walk Score. As if that wasn’t enough, there’s great public transit here as well; residents have streetcars on St. Clair, buses on all major roads, and Dupont Station is only a short walk east of the neighbourhood.

Car owners don’t have the most driver friendly location — midtown is easy to navigate, but you’ll have to stomach some time in traffic if you’re commuting downtown. For the nearest highway, head north on Bathurst to Eglinton for Allen Road and the 401.
