Buying a home in Don Valley Village

Once the site of several farms, Don Valley Village — as it’s known today — was developed in 1960 by Consolidated Building Corporation. At the time, the lure for buyers was 3 bedroom houses for $16,000; this neighbourhood still offers affordable housing today, but you’ll have to reach a lot deeper into your pockets than they did in the 1960s, whether you're looking for houses or Toronto condos.

Don Valley Village is bounded by Leslie St and highway 404 on its east and west sides, Sheppard Avenue to the south, and Wilsden Park to the north. The area is primarily residential, aside from Peanut Plaza strip mall in the middle of the neighbourhood, and a shopping centre on the south-east corner — which is also where most Don Valley Village condos are located.

There are a businesses spread throughout the area — in Peanut Plaza you’ll find salons, supermarkets, restaurants and a Taekwondo Academy. Fairview Mall sits on Sheppard, and is home to a variety of retail stores for clothing, accessories, and electronics; there’s a Cineplex Cinemas for movie nights with the family.

On Finch Avenue you’ll find restaurants, daycares, and a community centre as well. For a dose of nature, Skymark Park and Willesden Park are in the area, and several green spaces are spread throughout the community. Don Valley Village Condos are great for families, as there are many schools, libraries, and recreation facilities, plus more in surrounding areas.
