    Buying a home in Downsview

Once the site of a large military base, Downsview is a sprawling neighbourhood in the North York area, filled with tree-lined residential streets and expansive green spaces. Noted for its diversity and affordable housing, this area is popular with first-time home buyers and growing families. While most people move to Downsview in search of single-family homes, Downsview condos offer even greater savings, perfect for buyers on a tight budget.

On residential streets you’ll find a variety of townhomes, detached 2-storey houses, bungalows, and apartment buildings. An appealing aspect of this community is that Oakdale Golf & Country Club is located on westside of the neighbourhood; which many of the houses in the area back on to, therefore guaranteeing that there will be no houses behind them in the future.

This neighbourhood has a lot offer in terms of convenience; there are a variety of retail spaces in the area — Yorkdale Shopping Centre is just south of the neighbourhood and is host to a large selection of boutiques for high-end fashion and technology… you can even buy a Tesla there if you’re interested. North York Sheridan Mall is located within the neighbourhood borders for big box stores and specialized boutiques, but the section isn’t quite as impressive as Yorkdale Shopping Centre.

Downsview is home to a number of service based businesses, from salons to cleaners to auto repair shops and more; unlike many areas in the GTA which aren’t self sustained, residents of Downsview can easily accomplish their daily errands within their own neighbourhood.

Children — and adults too — have a wealth of recreational activities available to them; Downsview Park on the east side of the neighbourhood has a very impressive sports complex — here you’ll find indoor soccer, basketball courts, an indoor track, go karts, volleyball, and gymnastics; which should be enough to wear out even the most energetic children. Adults may be more interested in the walking trails or market place.

    Condo Life in Downsview

With over 15 buildings in the area and more in development — the condo scene is alive and well in this neighbourhood, and buyers have plenty of options for Toronto condos for sale here. Prospective buyers have a variety of townhomes and mid-rise condos to choose from, most of which are located near Keele Street and Wilson Avenue.

Downsview condos have great value, and units in this neighbourhood are well below the average price per square foot of those found in downtown Toronto, and as a bonus, floor plans tend to be more generous as well. Building amenities vary quite a bit — developments like Westmount Condos and Ion Condos offer extensive extras and will throw everything you way expect the kitchen sink — for clarity, there are kitchen sinks in all units — while other mid-rises and townhomes offer far less.

If you’re looking for Downsview condos with a can’t beat location, you’ll probably find these properties lacking. Being located near Wilson and Keele does bring some added convenience — banks, restaurants, retail spaces, and grocery stores — but entertainment options are certainly limited.

    Transportation

Downsview isn’t the most pedestrian-friendly area, but condo owners should be able to run most errands on foot, due to their location near Keele and Wilson. For those who require public transit, there are east and westbound buses on Wilson, Calvington and Sheppard, and north and southbound buses on Keele and Jane.

Residents who commute to downtown Toronto have Wilson Station in the eastern portion for the neighbourhood for subway lines; unfortunately, there aren’t any GO stations for travel to other parts of the Golden Horseshoe.

Downsview condos were meant for car owners — drivers won’t have to spend much time in city traffic with the 401 just a few minutes south, making it easy to connect to the Don Valley Parkway for travel downtown.
