    Buying a home in Steeles

For most first-time home buyers, the neighbourhoods where they’ve always dreamt of living are now out of reach, and as more buyers are pushed further from the city core, neighbourhoods like Steeles are becoming more popular.

Tucked away in Scarborough, this family neighbourhood offers expansive green spaces and large detached houses, at prices that won’t require selling your soul. Steeles condos are even more appealing, as units in this neighbourhood can for half the price of comparable condos in downtown Toronto.

Steeles is as suburban as it gets — on residential streets you’ll find similarly styled detached and semi detached 2-storey houses, set on narrow lots. There are schools from primary to senior high; private, public, and catholic. The neighbourhood is packed full of green spaces, the largest being L'Amoreaux North Park, which has walking trails and a community centre.

Residents have shopping options in the area — there’s a cluster of restaurants and retail stores in the centre of the neighbourhood, Pacific Mall is just north of Steeles Avenue and Bridlewood Mall is south on Warden. Additional commercial spaces can be found on Victoria Park and Kennedy Road; restaurants, big box stores, athletic clubs, and a variety of service based businesses.

The most appealing aspects of condos in this neighbourhood are price and square footage — suites here have generous floor plans; Skypark Condos has 1 bedroom + den units that are over 1100 square feet, and sell for discount prices.

Steeles condos are great for families, as there are 1500 square foot 3 bedroom units at very affordable price points. Regardless of the building, amenities are largely the same — most have gyms, pools, saunas, and on-site security.

The majority of Steeles condos are located near Warden Avenue, granting residents with easy access to restaurants, grocery stores, and public transit.

    Transportation

Steeles has a 61 Walk Score, and while condo owners will likely be able to run most errands on foot, everyone else will likely need a vehicle or public transit to accomplish all their tasks. The neighbourhood has reasonable public transit; there are bus stops on all major roads, and Milliken GO Station is just east of Kennedy Road for GO Transit.

And because it couldn’t be the suburbs without a nearby highway — driver’s have the 404 to the west, making it easy to connect to the 401 and Don Valley Parkway.
