Settled in 1792 by the Denison Family — Dufferin Grove began as an estate, becoming farmland when the family decided to start cultivating the soil in the 1830s. As the city of Toronto swelled, extending towards the borders of Dufferin Grove, the Denison family realized that there was a lot of money to be made in housing, and so a neighbourhood was built — a tale fit for a capitalist’s dream.
In modern day, the neighbourhood is packed with 2-storey houses and bounded by major thoroughfares — making it hard to believe that this area was ever farmland. With such a central location, it should come as no surprise that prices for detached homes are considerably high here; however, Dufferin Grove condos are far more affordable but still pricey in some cases.
Dufferin Grove has a very diverse population, and the Toronto condos here cast a wide net. Entertainment options are vast; on Dundas, Bloor and College you’ll find a plethora of pubs, restaurants and cafes. There are live music venues like The Smiling Buddha, several nearby comedy clubs, and as much craft beer as you can handle — so pace yourself.
This neighbourhood has a lot to offer families as well; there are schools, recreation centres, and a sizeable green space at Dufferin Grove Park. Most businesses located within the neighbourhood are in the food and beverage industry, but there are a few manufacturers, salons, and retail spaces too.
Dufferin Grove condos come in a variety of shapes and sizes — hard lofts and soft lofts, mid-rise buildings, Toronto townhouses, and more. Amenities fluctuate from extensive to sparse, so prospective buyers will need to decide what kind of condo experience they’re looking for before settling on one of these properties.
The most discerning buyers will fall in love with Hepbourne Hall, a loft conversion with towering ceilings, exposed brick walls, and luxurious finishes. For value focused buyers, the best options are found just outside of the neighbourhood’s borders — beBloor Condos is located at 1369 Bloor St W, and offers ample amenities and units at reasonable prices.
Most Dufferin Grove condos are situated on the northern edge of the neighbourhood near Bloor, but there really isn’t a bad location in Dufferin Grove, so no matter where you reside within this community, you’re never far from dining, entertainment, and public transit.
Dufferin Grove condos come with a brag worthy 90 Walk Score — perfect for residents who wish to run errands on foot. There’s great public transit in the area as the neighbourhood is literally surrounded by TTC service, with a multitude of bus routes, streetcars on College, and Ossington Station just north of Bloor for subway service.
Drivers will need to stomach some city traffic to get where they’re going, but can head south on Dufferin for Lake Shore Boulevard and the Gardiner Expressway.
