Buying a home in York Crosstown

Understanding the boundaries of where one might find a York Crosstown condo for sale is no simple feat. Parts of the area reach as far north as the 401; most of the area is situated north of St. Clair, yet the westernmost part reaches all the way south to Bloor; and for the most part, York Crosstown comprises the area west of the Allen Expressway and east of the Humber River.

While York Crosstown is quite spread out, it’s home to nine neighbourhoods and just over 20 condos. That said, more and more residential developments are likely to crop up in the near future, especially once the Eglinton Crosstown subway line is complete. Eventually, buyers who have purchased York Crosstown condos for sale will be able to use public transit to ride all the way east to Kennedy and west to Mount Dennis.

The population in York Crosstown is extremely diverse, with a number of communities especially visible in certain neighbourhoods. For example, Eglinton West just south of Briar Hill & Belgravia neighbourhoods has been dubbed ‘Little Jamaica.’ This stretch of Eglinton is filled with Jamaican businesses, from beauty salons to bakeries and of course jerk chicken joints.

Then there’s Old Mill, the southernmost point of York Crosstown and a charming residential pocket with little high-rise developments. This neighbourhood is home to a considerable Eastern European population, with the Ukrainian Festival on Bloor West every September serving as a great reminder — and an excuse for everyone to eat some borscht and varenyky (basically the pierogies of Ukraine).
