Buying a home in Rockcliffe - Smythe

The neighbourhood of Rockcliffe – Smythe was first settled in the 1800s, and consisted of vast stretches of farmland. In 1920, the Smythe Gravel Pit opened, and it would become the area’s claim to fame — a fact that truly exemplifies how boring the 1800s were. By the end of world war II, the gravel pit was out of gravel, and thus the land was used for residential housing instead.

In modern day, Rockcliffe – Smythe is a diverse neighbourhood in the York Crosstown area, with a ton of appeal for young professionals, growing families, and first time home buyers. Offering a wealth of natural beauty and affordably priced houses, this neighbourhood provides residents with a quiet community not far removed from bustling Toronto streets.

Rockcliffe – Smythe condos don’t excite buyers the same way that buildings in downtown Toronto do, but if you’re a first time home buyer who’s trying to break into the market — you’re going to be excited about Rockcliffe – Smythe condos when you see the affordable price tags.

For nature lovers, this area is a haven; the Humber River runs along its western boundary with riverside walking trails; Black Creek runs through the middle of the neighbourhood, and there are a dozen parks sprinkled throughout the area with additional walking trails. Lambton Golf & Country Club and Scarlett Woods Golf Course are both located nearby, and there are several sports fields and playgrounds to keep children entertained.

Most businesses are situated around St. Clair Avenue, Humber Blvd N, and Weston Road; here you’ll find restaurants, retail stores, big box outlets, salons, fitness centres, and a variety of service based businesses. Parents have many schools to choose from for their children and more in surrounding areas — plus daycares and athletic clubs.

Of course, there are definite drawbacks to this neighbourhood; condo buyers only have a few buildings to pick from — traditional high-rises and a modern mid-rise. Stockyards District Condos is the only modern building and it enjoys a prime location in the neighbourhood, but Lambton Square and Lambton Square IV Condos are both relatively isolated.

Rockcliffe – Smythe condos have amenities that are consistent with other Toronto condos; you can expect to find gyms, party rooms, and pools in most buildings.

Car owners have to exercise some patience when travelling downtown, but heading south on Jane to S Kingsway will lead you to the Gardiner Expressway and Lake Shore Boulevard.
