About 160 Bedford Road — DW Lofts
Rather than being named for the building’s designer or creator, DW actually stands for Designers Walk. This makes sense, as these Toronto lofts are located at the intersection of Designers Walk Lane and Bedford Road. Designers Walk and their affiliated Resource Centre are also, unsurprisingly, located on this lane. Known as Toronto’s go-to for all things interior design showroom, Designers Walk Inc. is also responsible for the construction of these very lofts.
Yes, we realize this is confusing. Thankfully, none of this background information is all that important for prospective buyers seeking Toronto condos for sale. What is crucial to know, though, is the following.
For one, Powell and Bonnell, a celebrated design team, is responsible for decking out every one of the eight soft lofts at 160 Bedford Road. There’s yet another key detail — the building is intimate as can be. With such a small number of homes here, turnover is destined to stay low, while giving the lofts an extra splash of exclusivity.
Next, the building is unassuming, thanks to its location on a charming, tree-lined street, just far enough away from the hustle and bustle. Rather than big-box commercial storefronts, 160 Bedford shares the street with one other mid-rise and a whole bunch of stunning Victorian homes.
The Suites
With the smallest of lofts at 160 Bedford measuring up at over 200 square feet larger than most downtown Toronto condos, space is never an issue at the DW Lofts. You might have already guessed this, since the entire building is divided up into less than 10 units. The homes don’t range in size all too much, though, meaning those looking for thousands of square feet might not be satisfied: the largest loft at 160 Bedford is approximately 1,300 square feet.
The DW Lofts certainly live up to their name in terms of style, and Designers Walk Inc. clearly know what they’re doing even beyond the world of showrooms. The open concept layouts are enveloped floor-to-ceiling windows, resulting in bright and airy lofts. Hardwood floors can be found throughout the building, as well as contemporary appliances.
Every one of these lofts also covers two floors, and is outfitted with a sizable balcony. This way, residents living at 160 Bedford Road can alternate between admiring their homes and the street below.
The Neighbourhood
The DW Lofts are located close enough to Dupont Street that residents will visit often, yet set back onto a more residential street for that ideal neighbourhood vibe, that comes with living in The Annex.
And while nearby Yorkville might be the area of choice for celebrities who visit Toronto, the neighbourhood isn’t completely unaffordable to ordinary folk, either. Some of the boutiques may warrant more window-shopping that actual buying, however some one-stop shops on Bloor Street area ideal for picking up a hostess gift or some new items for the home.
Restaurant options in the area also vary. Some venues along Avenue Road and in Yorkville are best saved for special occasions, while others like Sushi Inn and Trattoria Nervosa won’t break the bank. Dupont is also home to a number of inventive eateries, serving up everything from Mexican to Middle Eastern.
Another great area for residents to explore is the Annex itself. Just southwest of 160 Bedford, this neighbourhood is like Yorkville’s quirky and laid back aunt. Bars, restaurants, and shops are generally affordable, especially thanks to the University of Toronto students who tend to take up residence here.
Walking a little further west will land residents in Korea Town. We probably don’t have to explain what this entails, but we will say that the restaurants are as authentic as it gets from 10,000 kilometers away.
Transportation
Unlike many other homes in Toronto, the DW Lofts are literally surrounded by subway stations. Dupont, Spadina, St. George, Museum, Bay, and Rosedale are all within walking distance, making life a whole lot easier for residents without cars of their own. Alternatively, a few local buses are available for those headed out in other directions. The 6 makes its way down Bay Street, with a stop on Davenport at Bedford Road, while the 26 is a good option for those wanting to head east or west along Dupont Street.
Those with cars, on the other hand, can also zoom around the city with ease. The DW Lofts are surrounded by a number of major routes that will come in handy to residents living at 160 Bedford Road: Davenport, Dupont, Avenue Road, Spadina Avenue, and Bloor Street. Even cyclists can ride safely to and from with, with bike lanes on Bloor and St. George.
