About 257 Euclid Avenue — Euclid Lofts
The Toronto lofts at 257 Euclid Avenue can hardly be called condos: there are only five units in the entire building. Still, certain elements make the Euclid Lofts distinctive from semi-detached homes or townhouses.
In fact, a little bit of digging into the history of the Euclid Lofts reveals that the building was converted from three townhouses. And yet, somehow still, the result is a handful of homes that are well above average in terms of size for west end Toronto condos.
History lovers will appreciate the small pieces of the past that can be found here: it was once home to a First Born Church and word is that the developers preserved a brass Star of David inside terazzo flooring, before installing limestone tile over top.
Constructed in 2004 by Hippo Properties Inc, the Euclid Lofts defies definition — some might call them modern, minimalist, brutalist, or cubist, and while none of those labels would necessarily be incorrect, they fail to do the property justice. The smooth white façade is interjected with window panes of various sizes, standing out dramatically from the Victorian homes surrounding 257 Euclid.
Unsurprisingly, no common amenities are to be found; however, those with furry friends will be glad to hear that the building is pet friendly — a bonus for those hoping to make good use of the Trinity Bellwoods Park dog bowl.
The Suites
As hinted at previously, none of the homes here can be described as cozy. Rather, the suites at 257 Euclid start at around 1,500 square feet and reach to nearly 3,000.
Possibly even more impressive than the expansive square footage of Toronto condos for sale here is the interesting use of levels at the Euclid Lofts. The homes not only cover multiple levels, but some are split-level homes as well. As a result, there are lots of little spaces for residents to use as they please: one unit featured on Toronto Life even showed a staircase landing being used as a small workout space.
Adding to the feeling of spaciousness at 257 Euclid are the ceiling heights that reach to 12.5 feet in certain areas, while bright sunlight pouring in through enormous windows doesn’t hurt either.
Ultra-modern kitchens brimming with stainless steel can be found at the Euclid Lofts, as well as hardwood floors, plenty of outdoor space, gas fireplaces, walk-in closets, and huge living rooms perfect for entertaining. A few of the units even afford their residents with private parking spaces in the back.
The Neighbourhood
It would be impossible — and preposterous — to describe the Trinity Bellwoods area without starting with the park. Trinity Bellwoods Park is a favourite green spot for Torontonians, who flock there in the summer from far and wide. For residents of the Euclid Lofts, however, a walk over to this coveted park takes just about 8 minutes.
While Trinity Bellwoods Park might be busiest when the weather is warmer, there’s even an ice rink for those truly dedicated outdoor enthusiasts. The rest of the time, park-goers can participate in baseball games, tennis matches, picnics, and strolls down to the south end, which exits out onto Queen West.
Along Queen Street, residents will find an array of cafés, boutiques, bakeries and bars, each with a unique character of its own. Another great spot to check out in the area is the Ossington Strip, where some of the best chefs in the city have been known to open up eateries in recent years.
And for those home chefs interested in a condo, there is an expansive Metro located at Crawford and College — just less than 15 minutes away on foot. Additionally, College is home to a number of independent fruit and vegetable markets, while Kensington Market is also within close reach with its organic grocery stores and specialty food shops.
Transportation
Thanks to its location just steps from Dundas Street West, residents will have no trouble getting around the city. Streetcars make stops at the corner of Dundas and Euclid, before continuing on west toward Dundas West Station on the Bloor-Danforth line or east to the Yonge-University-Spadina Line. Alternatively, Ossington, Bathurst, and College are all major arterial routes that are serviced by the TTC — and frequently.
Those who drive can also make use of these arterial roads, while another great option for traveling longer distances is to head down to the Gardiner Expressway, which runs east and west along the shore of Lake Ontario. The 427 isn’t too far off either, which is especially useful when traveling toward Pearson International Airport.
