About 384 Sunnyside AvenueThe Abbey Lofts

Don’t be fooled, no one is ever forced to step into a confessional before purchasing a home at the Abbey Lofts. Residents may, however, find themselves every now and then looking up at the sky and asking what they have done to deserve such a home.

The exterior appearance of the Abbey Lofts remains indistinguishable from its days as a Methodist Church. The former house of worship was built in 1910, and today the gothic style structure houses a select 24 hard lofts over just three storeys.

The preserved limestone façade, cathedral windows, and stained glass raise 384 Sunnyside Avenue to a step above the average church conversion. From within the units themselves, these features are sure to make guests green with envy.

While finding a place to leave one’s Model T during church services may not have been an issue back in the 1910’s, today parking can become quite a hassle in downtown Toronto. Thankfully, theses Toronto condos for sale come with a select few amenities that happen to include parking.

    The Suites

With only 24 Toronto lofts in the entire building, lofts are not only generously sized, but each one is distinctive in style. Sizes range from around 950 to 2,900 square feet, and many feature open concept floor plans, especially in communal areas such as living and dining rooms, as well as kitchens.

From within, the original church structure is everywhere to be seen. Many walls feature exposed limestone, which along with inset authentic arched stained glass windows, give the Abbey Lofts a castle-like feel.

While certain units enjoy distinctive features such as bell towers and 17 foot vaulted ceilings, others such as the lofts on the ground floor boast sunken living areas and large walkout patios. Other frequent design elements are hardwood floors, authentic wooden columns and ceiling beams, modern kitchens and bathrooms, and arched passageways leading from room to room.

    The Neighbourhood

Located within the Roncesvalles neighbourhood, the Abbey Lofts is set idyllically on the tranquil and tree-lined Sunnyside Avenue. Residents can enjoy peace and quiet at home, while the animated Roncesvalles Avenue remains only a stone’s throw away.

Along Roncesvalles Avenue, independent eateries are interspersed with local boutiques, secondhand bookshops, dreamy cafes, live music venues, and more. On rainy days, neighbours can gather at the Revue Cinema, a movie theatre that dates almost as far back as the Abbey Lofts themselves.

When the weather chooses to cooperate, those living at 384 Sunnyside Avenue will find themselves within walking distance of a wide range of outdoor activities. Between its 400 acres of green, a swimming pool, multiple sports fields and facilities, playgrounds, and even its very own zoo, residents can spend days getting lost in High Park. On the hottest of summer days, Sunnyside Beach boasts a boardwalk, sandy areas for sunbathing, and an outdoor pool.

    Transportation

No matter what one’s preferred means of transportation may be, travel to and from the Sunnyside Lofts is simple. Buses run north and south along Roncesvalles Avenue, transporting passengers to Queen Street West or Bloor, where they can connect with the subway. The Dundas West station on the Bloor-Danforth line is accessible within minutes from 384 Sunnyside Avenue, whether by bus or on foot.

Also on Bloor Street West, and conveniently just around the corner from Roncesvalles, is the Bloor GO/UP station. From here, travelers can board trains or buses to cities just beyond Toronto’s borders, or they can use the UP service to reach Pearson International Airport for travel around the globe.

Drivers living at the Sunnyside Lofts can reach the Gardiner Expressway in minutes, from which they can travel along the southern edge of the city in a hurry. Major arterial roads such as Bloor, Keel, and Dundas West will come in handy for car owners as well. Or, for those who prefer to exercise while they travel, biking and walking are always great options for exploring the neighbourhood or running errands nearby.
