About 833 King Street W — West 833
Although unfortunately the original scent of 833 King Street West doesn’t remain, the visual heritage still does. It might seem strange to yearn for an old smell — but not when a Toronto loft was once home to a perfumery.
Dating back to the 1930s, this former perfume factory was converted into hard loft residences about 60 years later. In 1998 this type of transformation was quite a feat, as hard lofts had yet to become commonplace. This fact is what makes Triloft Developments’ success with West 833 that much more remarkable.
What Triloft accomplished so gracefully was blending the old with the new. Their juxtaposition of the historical façade with a new addition is, truly, something to celebrate. Technically speaking, then, West 833 is made up of both hard and soft lofts. The three original storeys are now fastened to seven floors of contemporary homes, all of which are clad in soft, yellow brick.
The combination means that all sorts of buyers tend to gravitate toward the lofts at 833 King West — some seeking out historic charm, while others covet the modern creation next door. And even those opting for door number 1 have access to all of the modern amenities placed in the newer section of the building: a gym, party room, and rooftop terrace, as well as bicycle and visitor parking.
The Suites
Although the building only contains a small number of units — 52 to be precise — there are still many sizes and styles to choose from here. The Toronto condos for sale at West 833 range from approximately 650 to 1,600 square feet, meaning everyone from single buyers to families and even those working from home can be comfortable here.
In terms of layout, the homes at 833 King West vary — some bachelor units are available, while others may contain one or two bedrooms each. More sizeable homes are laid out in a rare, mezzanine style, with master bedrooms perched above. In these two storey units, ceiling heights reach to an astounding 18 feet tall.
And as for those archetypal loft qualities, we won’t keep you waiting any longer: exposed concrete can be found throughout the building, while windows stretch the length and height of entire walls, and open concept floor plans are abundant.
Moving back outside, a good number of the West 833 Lofts also boast balconies or terraces. Those lucky enough to score south facing units will especially love watching the lake’s calming waters whenever they get the chance.
The Neighbourhood
Being surrounded by the King West neighbourhood certainly has its benefits. Residents are highly unlikely to run out of things to do, for one. This area is not only full of entertainment venues, but also shops, dining options, bars and clubs.
While the restaurants in the area tend to be upscale, casual options such as pizza and tacos can be found here as well. But when the time comes to stay in—whether for a low key evening or an elaborate dinner party — provisions can be gathered at the Metro in Liberty Village, Loblaws at Queen and Portland, or The Kitchen Table at King and Bathurst.
The TIFF Bell Lightbox might be its most bustling during the Toronto International Film Festival, but residents of the lofts at 833 King West are lucky enough to be able to watch global films here year round. Other entertainment in the area comes in the form of live performances: the Toronto Symphony Orchestra is stationed nearby at Roy Thompson Hall, while some of the best plays in the city rotate in and out of the Princess of Wales and Royal Alexandra Theatres.
The Lofts are also surrounded by green space: Stanley Park, Trinity Bellwoods Park, Garrison Common, and Coronation Park are all within walking distance. Between the indoor pool at Trinity Bellwoods, off leash dog park at Stanley Park, and myriad of baseball diamonds overlooking the lake at Coronation Park, outdoorsy types will definitely be satisfied.
Transportation
Homeowners living at 833 King West are in luck, thanks to this building’s central location. While walking and cycling will suffice when heading out for the afternoon, the TTC will also come in handy for those embarking on lengthier journeys.
Streetcar routes along Bathurst and King Street will land passengers at the Bloor-Danforth and Yonge-University-Spadina lines, respectively. From Bathurst Station, those heading to Pearson International Airport can ride west until they reach the Bloor GO/UP station. Those looking to catch a VIA Rail train, on the other hand, will only need to ride a one stop south from St. Andrew Station in order to reach Union Station.
Those who prefer to drive are also in luck, especially with the Gardiner Expressway just around the corner. Accessed from either Jameson or Spadina Avenue, this fast-paced route offers drivers the chance to merge onto the 427 to the west or the Don Valley Parkway to the east.
