Buying a home in Alexandra Park

The neighbourhood of Alexandra Park is deeply rooted in history — its origins begin in 1791, when the land was first surveyed by Augustus Jones. The land was later purchased by a Polish engineer named Sir Casimir Gzowski, who built his family home there, which he subsequently named “The Hall” — a name that was probably quite original in 1791.

Alexandra Park was annexed by Toronto in 1859, becoming a popular neighbourhood for Polish and Ukrainian immigrants. But it hasn’t been all sunshine and clear skies for Alexandra Park; as more immigrants came into the area and large public housing developments were constructed, the neighbourhood was the site of tensions between old residents and newcomers.

In modern times, the tensions have passed, and Alexandra Park is a neighbourhood in transition; after extensive consultation, the city put forward a plan to revitalize the community. And the look of the neighbourhood has already begun to change, now a mix of older houses, newer townhomes, and modern Alexandra Park condos.

Alexandra Park condos for sale have become quite popular with young professions — and it’s easy to see why. With Chinatown to the east, Kensington Market to the north, and Queen Street just beyond the southern boundary, residents have great options for dining, shopping, and nightlife.
