    Renting a home in Downsview

Downtowners may not know much about this North York neighbourhood, but Downsview residents are all in on a local secret: the magic of Downsview Park. Originally used as a military base, the park now serves a multiplicity of uses. For one, the Downsview Park Sports Centre offers unconventional recreation activities like rock climbing and go-karting. That said, active types can also come to Downsview Park to partake in more traditional sports like volleyball, basketball, and hockey.

On top of these facilities, the park is home to a couple of other unconventional residents. The Toronto Wildlife Centre, which rescues, nurses to health, and rehabilitates local wildlife, is set up in Downsview Park. Fresh City Farms also uses park space for its urban farm, and allows Torontonians to sign up for a produce delivery program.

The Merchants’ Market is yet another reason to visit Downsview Park: not only is this a farmer’s market, but vendors also come here to sell miscellaneous products from faraway countries, and to serve up a diverse array of authentic food that perfectly exemplifies Toronto’s multiculturalism. And last but not least, the park is also home to the Toronto School of Circus Arts — which is pretty self-explanatory.

Those living in Downsview condos for rent are well aware, however, that the neighbourhood has more to offer than just this impressive park. Downsview in fact covers a large expanse of land in North York, stretching from the 401 all the way to Sheppard Avenue West, and from the 400 to the Allen Expressway.

The promise of having access to big-box stores is yet another reason why prospective residents fall for Downsview condos for rent. In one shopping centre near Dufferin and Wilson, for example, residents can visit Home Depot, Best Buy, Michaels, and Costco — and they can do so from a single parking space.

    Condo Life in Downsview

As expected of a North York neighbourhood, Downsview is anything but dense. The large neighbourhood may cover a lot of ground, however it’s only home to 20 condos, many of which are mid-rise buildings such as Ion Condos and townhouse complexes like Yorkdale Village Townhomes.

Downsview may be situated away from the downtown core, but that doesn’t mean the neighbourhood isn’t accessible by subway. In fact, Downsview residents have their choice between two local subway stations: Sheppard West (formerly known as Downsview) and Wilson. Both of these stations provide access to the University-Spadina line, making a trip down to the city centre a breeze. The ride all the way to Union Station, for example, takes just 30 minutes from Sheppard West.

Drivers, on the other hand, benefit from living so close to a number of major highways. The 400, the 401, and the Allen Expressway all come in handy for those with cars, although the latter is the only one that carries cars south. The 401 is useful for travellers heading out of town, with a trip to Pearson International Airport only taking around 15 minutes.
