Plenty of neighbourhoods offer access to the Humber River and High Park, but for the Bloor West Village and Runnymede, these two natural landforms also act as boundaries that ward off traffic and noise. Runnymede reaches as far north as Dundas Street West, with the Bloor West Village comprising the area just north of Bloor Street West.
Both the Bloor West Village and Runnymede feel predominantly residential, thanks to their many quiet streets that are lined with single-family homes. Specifically, many of the homes in the area showcase the American Craftsman style, an architectural style popular between the late 1800s and the 1930s.
Not only are Runnymede and the Bloor West Village charming, but they’re also two extremely well-managed neighbourhoods. For example, the Bloor West Village BIA, which is made up of over 400 businesses along Bloor Street, encourages residents to shop local, and plans annual events for the neighbours to enjoy. And most innovative of all, new businesses that wish to move into the neighbourhood must first convince residents that they won’t create an excess of noise pollution.
In terms of demographics, a large number of Eastern European residents call the Bloor West Village home. Luckily, this group can enjoy a taste of home at Janchenko Bakery and Amber European Restaurant, both of which serve up some of the best Polish and Ukrainian fare in the city.
And while residents try to shop local as much as they can, those living in Runnymede condos for sale still have access to a number of large grocery stores, such as FreshCo and Loblaws. Down on Bloor, Bloor West Village Residents can also stock up on staples at Nicholson’s No Frills.
Bloor West Village condos for rent are divided amongst just four buildings, a number that may not rise dramatically in years to come thanks to the neighbourhood’s moratorium on the creation of high rises. While the small number of condos makes it more difficult to lock down the perfect home, it promises to keep the neighbourhood calm and quiet into the future.
Even some of the buildings themselves are quite small, such as The 23 at Baby Point, which is divided into just 23 homes. Then there’s the Volta Lofts, an even smaller building at 588 Annette that contains just 19 suites. And although the Volta’s size doesn’t set it apart from the rest of the buildings in the neighbourhood, its use of rooftop solar panels does.
Bloor West Village condos for rent can also come in the form of townhouses. Renters in search of this type of home can check out Oxford Court Townhouses at 112 Evans Avenue, 116 Evans Avenue, and 3-5 San Remo Terrace. Even sizeable families can find something suitable here, as the 54 homes all measure in at around 2,200 square feet.
Thanks to its proximity to Bloor Street West, residents living in Bloor West Village condos for rent can traverse the city with ease, even without a car. Journeys often start with a trip to Jane or Runnymede Station, from which passengers can ride east or west on the Bloor-Danforth subway line. Using this subway line, residents can find themselves in The Annex or Etobicoke in just over 10 minutes.
As for those who prefer to drive, Bloor is also a great option for heading into the city centre or out to the suburbs. Heading west on Bloor will land residents at the 427, from which they can travel north to the 401 and beyond. Drivers can also access the 401 via Royal York Road, and the Gardiner Expressway can be reached via the South Kingsway.
