Whatever happens in the West End, one thing is for sure: it’s trendy. Whether it’s restaurants, boutiques, fitness studios, or DIY spaces, this observation holds true if a business is going to stick around for long. Despite its overall hip atmosphere, though, the West End is in fact divided up into 16 distinctive neighbourhoods that reach from the Humber River all the way to Bathurst Street. From north to south, the area reaches almost as far as Rogers Road, and right down to Lake Ontario.
Even within this ever-cool area, the particular neighbourhood that’s on everyone’s radar continues to change. Back in 2014, for example, West Queen West was named one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world by Vogue magazine. West Queen West is still just as hip as it once was (if not more), however in recent years Ossington Avenue has proven to be quite the competition. The small stretch of Ossington between Dundas and Queen is home to some of the best restaurants and most sought-after bars in the city, as well as some truly innovative businesses like the smart glasses company Focals by North.
Even the parks in the area are anything but average. For one, residents living in West End condos for rent have access to Trinity Bellwoods Park. Here, people watching is just as legitimate an activity as, say, playing tennis, baseball, or Frisbee. The dog bowl is the highlight of the park for pet owners: this massive off-leash dog area is filled with stylish pups no matter what the weather forecast may be. The dog bowl is even home to the annual ‘pug grumble,’ a meet up just for pugs and their owners.
Then, of course there’s High Park, a 400-acre green space that simply can’t be beat. Renters living in High Park - Swansea, Roncesvalles, or the Bloor West Village can walk over to this park in no time, while others will travel from far and wide to get lost in this massive park.
As previously mentioned, there are plenty of unique neighbourhoods in which West End condos for sale can be found. Those who can’t stand the thought of living more than a few blocks from an enormous park can opt for buildings like the High Park Residences in High Park North or The Candy Factory Lofts in Queen West. As for a building that’s as close to the waterfront as it is to High Park, the Park Lake Residences and Windermere By The Lake are both great options.
Liberty Village is also ideal for anyone looking for a neighbourhood that’s both charming and self-contained. Living in buildings like the Liberty Market Lofts and the King West Condos at Liberty Village provides access to all the amenities Liberty Village has to offer, plus they’re a stone’s throw from the Exhibition Place and Lake Ontario.
Residents living in West End condos for rent have plenty of options for getting around the city. Those who prefer not to drive, for example, can hop onto streetcars heading north, south, east or west along major arterial roads like Bathurst, Spadina, Queen, and King. The Bloor-Danforth subway line also cuts across the area, with stations situated all along Bloor Street West.
As for drivers, on the other hand, the Gardiner Expressway is one major highway that certainly makes travelling throughout Toronto much easier. This highway hugs the southern edge of the city, carrying cars west to the 427 and east to the Don Valley Parkway.
Last but not least, West End condos for rent are also within close reach of an airport. The Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is situated on Centre Island, just south of Bathurst Street and Queens Quay. Alternatively, residents heading to Pearson can hop onto the UP train from Bloor West Station, from which they can reach this major airport in just 15 minutes.
