It’s difficult to sum up North York, considering the diverse array of neighbourhoods that lie within it. The enormous area, which sits north of Eglinton Avenue and stretches as far north as Steeles, contains over 30 distinctive pockets that each have their own lists of selling points. That said, North York condos for sale all promise a number of things to prospective buyers, such as countless ravines, lower density, and excellent highway access.

North York was actually once a city of its own: initially a township, then a borough, it finally achieved the designation of city in 1979. Over the next nine years North York would experience rapid growth, with the development of transportation infrastructure and residential offerings attracting more and more residents to the area. Finally, the 1998 amalgamation of the municipalities surrounding Toronto resulted in North York becoming one of six areas in the megacity of Toronto.

Three neighbourhoods quickly come to mind when thinking about North York: Bayview Village, Yorkdale, and Don Mills. It also just so happens that these neighbourhoods all contain namesake shopping centres that attract visitors from near and far. The Bayview Village Shopping Centre is known for its high-end boutiques; the Shops at Don Mills is untraditional (for Toronto at least), in that it’s an outdoor mall, and Yorkdale may only be the country’s fourth largest mall, but it’s known to have welcomed the first locations of international stores such as Apple, Microsoft, Tesla Motors, and most recently, the Cheesecake Factory.

Bayview Village is home to a massive IKEA, plus there’s a Costo and Home Depot just north of Yorkdale, in Downsview. Developed by the beloved Daniels Corporation in 2012, the building also happens to be located steps from the Bayview Station. Families seeking North York condos for sale can check out Gibson Square North Tower, ARC Condos, and Avonshire Condos, all of which contain suites that cover more than 2,000 square feet. Another great option is the Royal Arms Condos at 5418 Yonge. With the 401, the Don Valley Parkway, the 400, the Allen Expressway, and the 404 running through the area, North York is clearly a great place to live for residents who drive. Those living in Bayview Village and Willowdale, on the other hand, have access to the Sheppard subway line, which connects to the Yonge line at Sheppard-Yonge Station.

Over to the west, residents living in Downsview, Yorkdale and Glen Park, and surrounding neighbourhoods can reach the University-Spadina subway line in no time. Glencairn, Lawrence West, Yorkdale, Wilson, Sheppard West, Downsview Park, Finch West, and York University Stations all help to connect North York residents with the rest of Toronto.
